Registration and Tryout Information for HIGH SCHOOL - Fall 2021

Thanks to everyone who came out in person or joined us by Zoom last night for the HSAA HIGH SCHOOL Player/Parent meeting. If you are interested in trying out for the HSAA High School team this year, you need to have attended the meeting or joined via Zoom. If you were unable to do either, please watch the recording of the Zoom meeting. Thank you so much to Jason Potnick for helping set this up! 

Please send an email to [email protected] after watching the video. We have a list of those who attended in person or joined by Zoom last night, so no need to email if you were in either of those two groups.

Registration - What's needed:
An initial tryout fee of $25 (non refundable) can be paid online via credit card or offline via cash or check at the first tryout). All players will need to supply a current physical (YOU CANNOT TRY OUT WITHOUT IT). Please contact me at [email protected] with any questions on physicals ASAP. The physical can be uploaded during registration. A sample physical form is available under the Policies and Procedures tab. Any form your provider uses is fine as are Boy Scout physicals. Here's what is required for new and returning players.

New Players: The following items are required during registration or at the first tryout.
  • payment of $25 [cash (correct change please) or check payable to HSAA] at tryout; or online via credit card or eCheck ($27.30) during registration
  • copies of the physical and birth certificate (these can be uploaded online during registration).
Returning Players: The following items are required during registration or at the first tryout. Please note that the Athletic Release (that we always collected in the past) will be included in the online registration process via questions so no hard copy is needed. 
  • payment of $25 [cash (correct change please) or check payable to HSAA]; or online via credit card or eCheck ($27.30) during registration
  • copy of the physical (can be uploaded online during registration).

Registration Process:
On the website, registration is a 2-part process via the links in this email (not yet accessible from the website itself). The first step is General Registration. You may have gone through this if you have athletes in other HSAA sports. If that's the case, you'll just need to update information and add your baseball player in this step. The second part of registration (BASEBALL REGISTRATION) is now open and operational. If you want to pay by cash/check (or have already done so), please use the drop down menu on the payment page to select the option to be able to pay later / pay offline.

Please be sure to complete both steps of the Registration process by Sunday 9/5 so that information can be compiled for the coaches by 9/6.

Tryout Process:
The tryout process will be different this year!!! The $25 tryout fee covers the initial 2 week tryout period. If you cannot make the following 4 tryout dates/times for your grade, please contact Jesse Coon. The separation by grade will allow coaches to better evaluate players by seeing fewer players at a time. After these 4 tryout dates, all high school players will practice together as coaches determine team placement in the fall.

Sat 9/11 4-6 pm SENIORS & JUNIORS

9/11-9/12 Initial Cuts as needed

Thu 9/16 8-10 pm ALL GRADES

Sat 9/18 6-8 pm SENIORS & JUNIORS
Sat 9/18 8-10 pm SOPHOMORES & FRESHMEN

9/18-9/19 Additional Cuts as needed

An additional fee of $75 to help with paying for fall practices will be due 9/25. Caps and practice shirts will be available for purchase sometime after 9/19. Costs are roughly $20-$25 for caps and $13-$15 for practice shirts. Returning players, if your cap and shirt are in good shape, you do not need to buy more. (You may need to wash your cap.) Once all players are practicing together, coaches will start evaluating players for team placement.

Tryout Check-In:
Before going onto the field at the first tryout, players need to check in. We will start check in at 5ish on 9/7 for juniors and seniors. If all your paperwork has been turned in and payment has been made, you will just need to pick up your tryout number (we'll have a separate table for that). I'll send out a list of players who just need to pick up a number on Monday night (9/6). If you need to turn in a physical, birth certificate and/or payment, we will have 2 tables set up with lines by grade. You'll get your number there after checking in. 
At all subsequent tryouts/practices in the fall (until the 3 teams are named), you need to check in with the volunteers checking in players before practice. Please tell them your tryout number and name as you come in. After the first tryout, if you arrive before the volunteers, please stop by sometime during warmups and check in.
Tryout Numbers:
Tryout numbers will be a little different this year. Any returning player in grades 10-12 will receive his jersey number as his tryout number. All new players, including freshman who played for HSAA in middle school, will receive a random tryout number. In late September, we will determine jersey numbers for the spring (a returning player will be able to keep his jersey number). Players MUST wear their tryout numbers to ALL tryouts and practices until Coach Webb announces they are no longer needed (usually mid to late October). So PLEASE keep track of your number. You will receive 2 copies of your tryout number, and I recommend keeping one in your baseball bag at all times.

What to Wear/Bring to tryouts/practice:
  • Baseball pants (always unless indoors)
  • HSAA practice shirt (returning HS players) or a light colored shirt (new players)
  • Protective equipment
  • Baseball equipment (batting helmet, glove, bat, etc. - Catchers, bring your gear)
  • Water (do not share water)
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Mask (in case they are required at any point)
